Rick Lober
Rick Lober brings more than 40 years of experience spanning communications product and systems design, engineering management, program management, manufacturing, business development, and Division- and Corporate-level P&L leadership. His technical domain encompasses DoD C4ISR, space, SIGINT, geolocation, electronic warfare, line-of-sight, 5G, and satellite communications systems operating across LEO and MEO regimes. He has also contributed to the design of software-definable 5G LTE and 5G NTN (satellite-to-phone) systems for both commercial and defense applications.
Rick possesses deep expertise in the disciplines required for large DoD program capture and execution, including proposal management and compliance with DCAA, DCMA, ITAR, and the FARs. He recently retired from Hughes Network Systems as Vice President and General Manager of the Government and Defense business. Previously, he served as Senior Vice President of the Communications Business Unit at Cubic Corporation in San Diego and as Chief Executive Officer of Cubic Communications, Inc. Each of these roles was entrepreneurial in character, requiring the establishment of new business ventures within larger corporate structures.
Rick earned his BSEE and MSEE from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, concentrating on RF/microwave circuitry and low-noise GaAs amplifiers. He has published numerous papers on communications technology, including digital signal processing and software-definable radio, has presented at multiple conferences on satellite technology, and holds a patent in cellular communications.
Rick is active in a range of charitable and technical organizations and is an avid sailor. He resides in Annapolis, Maryland, with his wife, Annette. He currently consults on technical, business, and M&A analysis for companies serving DoD and Intelligence Community markets and serves as a coach to smaller, start-up organizations.
