The Band's AgFood Tech Special Interest Group (SiG) has the mission of "Hacking the Agriculture and Food Economy". It is a focal point for the members to learn, connect, and identify local and global trends from filed to fork, and to focus on successfully sourcing deals, investing and co-investing in the space and supporting innovators and innovations to achieve sustainability in global food production. The AgFood Tech SiG was founded by Band member Jaleh Daie and is co-chaired by Michael Geilhufe. The SiG collaborates with many other groups with common interests. We are very pleased to partner with Royse Law on hosting this year's meetings.
The March 1st SiG included presentations from 5 startups: a single platform for all online orders that allows restaurateurs to replace their online ordering tablets and track all their daily sales on one dashboard, a company that is revolutionizing the Fast Casual Restaurant industry with an Internet of Things/iBeacon based table location system, a smart plant growing systems that takes the guesswork out of small to the enterprise-scale commercial plant cultivation, a company incubated at Berkeley Biolabs in 2016 to serve the exploding need of the cannabis concentrates and edibles markets with qualitatively and quantitatively consistent ingredients for cannabis based products, and a company that provides cutting edge still photos and streaming video image recognition technology for food industry buyers and sellers.
