Ron Collett

Ron Collett has been involved in the high-tech industry for nearly 40 years, started three companies, hold Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Law Degree (JD), member of the California Bar.

1978 – 1983: Held various engineering positions involving design, test and reliability engineering at companies/organizations including GTE (gov’t defense/aerospace), SPS Technologies (robotics), and the Federal Aviation Administration (airport bomb detection).

1983 – 1989: Wrote professionally for high-tech magazine (Electronic System Design), responsible for covering technology and industry trends in semiconductor IC design and electronic design automation (EDA); early user of EDA tools while working as an engineer at GTE.

1989 – 1992: Director and Sr. Industry Analyst, Gartner Group (Dataquest), overseeing all research and analysis for the firm’s EDA and semiconductor ASIC practices.

1992 – 2000: CEO/founder Collett International, Inc., consulting firm specializing in EDA, semiconductor IC design, and electronic product development benchmarking (IC’s, computer design, telecomm design).

2000 – 2013: CEO/co-founder Numetrics, predictive analytics software company providing semiconductor companies with software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution for predicting chip design schedules and engineering staffing/resource requirements; funded by Band of Angels, July 2000; acquired by McKinsey & Co. in 2013 (http://www.mckinseysolutions.com/solutions/numetrics.aspx).

(1992 – 2011: Monthly columnist, Electronic Engineering Times (subscribership 155,000); focus: chip design, EDA, product development metrics, schedule predictability.)

2013: Associate Partner / Senior Expert, McKinsey & Company, Semiconductor Group. Oversaw transition/integration of Numetrics into McKinsey & Co. organization.

2014 – current: CEO/founder of NMX Global Software, Inc., an offshore software development services firm, providing software development engineering services to US companies (www.nmxglobalsoftware.com). NMX is spin-out of Numetrics – software engineering organization of Numetrics established itself as separate, independent company (NMX).
