Q: What is the selection process for companies to present to Band of Angels?
There are several steps to presenting at the Band. Once we receive the initial application (which consists of your online
submission and executive summary) the initial review will begin. Within four weeks of your initial submission, we will notify you if you have been selected to present at the Deal Screening Committee. From here we will select the top three companies to present at the next available Band dinner.

Q: What materials do we need to bring to the Deal Screening Committee meeting?
The screening meeting only lasts 15 minutes and is not a formal pitch. This is our committee’s opportunity to ask you questions that were raised during your initial review. We will provide you with all of the details and requirements as soon as the decision to invite you to the Deal Screening Committee meeting has been made.

Q: What is a Band dinner like?
Dinners are held at the Los Altos Country Club. Companies are invited to socialize with members during the cocktail hour in advance of their presentations. During dinner they are then afforded 15 minutes to present their company and to answer questions. If there is sufficient interest following the dinner there will be follow-up meetings scheduled with interested individuals. Additional diligence will follow and eventually an investment may be made.

Q: What is the success rate before the Band?
The Band has invested in 241 deals over its seventeen year period, a rate of a little more than one a month. In 2011 the Band invested in 13 deals, so companies can expect that one in three deals that present will receive some funding from the Band. However, given that 50+ solicit the opportunity each month, just getting on the agenda is a substantial recognition.

Q: How can I improve my chances of presenting to the Band?
There are really two ways in which you can improve your chance of presenting to the Band. First, by making sure that your company meets our investment criteria, and second by identifying a sponsor within Band of Angels. Though we cannot provide contact information for our members, they are active within the Silicon Valley community.
